Attitude Check of the Week - January 9
Attitude Check of the Week for the week of January 9, 2017
By changing the inner attitudes of our minds, we can change the outer aspects of our lives.
We've all heard it said before life is what you make it...it's true! Stop complaining and get to work. Easier said than done in certain situations yes, but doable. It takes work, commitment, and diligence but when you change how you feel about something you can't change, the things you can't change actually do change. It is a mindset, it is focusing on what is important.
I watched the College Football National Championship Game last night and while the same two teams were playing from last years championship, I expected as did everyone but Clemson coaches, players, family, students, and fans (...and truthfully maybe some of them secretly didn't think they could do it) expected to see the same outcome as last year. Alabama seemed like the better team because of their defense, coaching, and they had been there 5 times before and came out on top. They were the heavy favorites. As the game progressed it looked as if we were going to be right. I told my wife at halftime Alabama is going to win this because their defense is much better and will shut down any chance Clemson has. But as the second half continued you could see the Alabama defense begin to slow down, and Clemson was moving the ball, but Alabama seemed to answer right away. Clemson never backed down, no matter how Alabama responded. Even down to the last drive. Alabama scored to go by 3 with about 2 mins to go in the game. I wasn't sure if Clemson could drive the length of the field with so little time remaining but they did, and shocked the world...especially me!
Coach Dabo Swinney said something in his post game interview that caught my attention, he said I told my players to focus on the light from within...that light is Jesus. And if we allow his light to positively affect our thoughts towards those things that arise in our lives, we can then change those things. And just like with my tooth situation, my prayers were God take this pain away...that didn't happen, but what did happen was in the end I made it through. I had to begin to not focus on the pain and think positive. My positive thoughts got me through the situation and now I can look back and see how it was God.
