brother marlon on air
Brother Marlon has been in radio for 25 years beginning in 1992 on WXJX, the college radio station for Washington & Jefferson College. He interned at WAMO in 1994, and his career launched from there. Known then as Sean Richards he hosted a variety of shows including: The Breakfast Jam, The Quiet Storm, and Club 106. During his 25 years the voice has been the same but the mission has changed as the Lord got a hold of Brother Marlon's life in 1997; thus beginning his radio ministry.
The radio ministry began as Marlon worked overnights at WORD-FM, and did midday's at WGBN. He worked there for five years as on air personality, program/production director, and eventually morning show host. It was here were Marlon learned to merge the radio expertise he acquired over the years along with his personal ministry of inspiring listeners through music and the Word of God; making them laugh with his sense of humor and his own unique laugh, and encouraging his listeners to give praises to God.
He was called into full time ministry at his local church in 2005 and left radio for a couple months. But in January of 2006 he received the call to return to WAMO to host their gospel program on Sundays, and eventually become the program director at WPGR. Marlon worked there until the stations were sold in 2009. During this time he developed a tremendous following becoming the new voice of gospel in the Pittsburgh region, and continues to be sought after as a MC and speaker at various events.
After the sale of WAMO AM/FM, and WPGR in 2009 Brother Marlon continued working in ministry and worked on a podcast he started at WGBN called Total Access. Also during this time he began working with his mentor Ron Atkins on an internet radio station called The Power. In 2010 he returned to WORD-FM to host a new gospel program called The Power of Gospel. And continued there until the following year in 2011 when he received a call from another mentor Mike Gamble to come back to the Sheridan family to produce their radio programs (KD Bowe Morning Show/Rick Joyner Experience, Gospel Express with Morgan Dukes, Ace Alexander and the Praise Party, Evening Inspirations with Jackie Campbell, and the Bobby Jones radio show). Brother Marlon worked faithfully to provide creative content and production to the network until he received a promotion to afternoon host and music/production director of the network in October of 2014.
Brother Marlon once again became the voice of inspiration in Pittsburgh on the FM dial when WAMO returned to the region in 2012, he continues to provide music and inspiration each Sunday morning to this day.
2017 entered as a major year for Brother Marlon. This would prove to be a stellar year as his 25th year in radio would be one of his best. He revamped his website, began a podcast Brother Marlon Podcast (available in iTunes and Google Play Music stores), and launched his very own app Brother Marlon (available in iTunes and Google Play app stores). He began working on his autobiography, Called to Be a Voice in collaboration with former W&J alum and good friend author E. Marie Sanders. Plans were also set in motion to do a documentary on his story in collaboration with good friend Tashee Johnson of TeeJayVision. The film will be released in mid 2017 via the Brother Marlon app. Also, plans were set in motion for a celebration to take place on November 11, 2017, "Called to Be a Voice: A Celebration of 25 Years of Service."
In March of 2017 Brother Marlon would receive another promotion to become the program director of the Sheridan Gospel Network. 2017 has already been an amazing year and Brother Marlon continues to be grateful for all that God is doing in his life.
